Learners at Makutano Primary School in West Pokot County have demonstrated growing confidence and enthusiasm in digital learning following an assessment of the Raspberry Pi Foundation ICT Computing curriculum.

The visit brought together key education stakeholders to evaluate the progress of learners participating in the digital learning programme supported by the Raspberry Pi Foundation in partnership with the Frontier Counties Development Council and the Ministry of Education.

During the visit, the Sub-County Teachers Service Commission Quality Assurance Officer, John Tuliapong, together with the Raspberry Pi Foundation County Coordinator Kamtia and a teacher from Psigirio School, toured Makutano Primary School to review the implementation of the ICT Computing curriculum.

The team conducted a brief sit-in assessment with 23 Grade 7 learners to gauge their understanding of key concepts from the computing curriculum.

Makutano Primary School currently has two ICT tutors guiding learners through the digital learning programme.

Learners displayed remarkable enthusiasm and confidence as they attempted the quiz, eagerly engaging with questions designed to test their digital literacy and computing knowledge.

Their active participation reflected a strong interest in technology and an eagerness to build new digital skills.

According to the visiting team, the level of curiosity among the pupils made it difficult to limit participation, as many learners were keen to demonstrate what they had learned through the programme.

Following the assessment, the stakeholders held a short knowledge-sharing session with the learners.

During the discussion, pupils shared their experiences from the exercise and reflected on the lessons they had learned through the curriculum.

The interaction also provided valuable feedback on how digital learning can be further strengthened, particularly in improving teaching approaches to make lessons more engaging and effective for students.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation computing curriculum forms part of broader efforts to support digital literacy and enhance learning under Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum.

Through partnerships between education stakeholders and development organisations, schools across frontier counties are gradually integrating technology into classroom learning to equip learners with essential digital skills for the future.

The visit to Makutano Primary School highlights the growing impact of the programme, as learners continue to build confidence in using technology while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills through digital education.
