The County Government of Wajir has partnered with the Skyward Foundation to support youth development through football, following the official launch and flag-off of the Skyward Cup Wajir 2026.
The tournament, launched by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, is designed to provide young people with a structured platform to showcase their talent, build discipline, and access new opportunities through sports.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Abdullahi said football remains one of the most powerful tools for engaging and empowering the youth of Wajir, noting that the sport can bring communities together while nurturing skills among young people.
As part of the launch, the County Government of Wajir and Skyward Foundation handed over jerseys, footballs, and essential sports equipment to the FKF Wajir Branch and the Local Organising Committee.
The support is expected to strengthen preparations for the tournament and ensure participating teams are well-equipped.
Governor Abdullahi commended Skyward Airlines for its continued partnership and commitment to developing local youth talent in Wajir.
He said the collaboration reflects a shared vision of building a sustainable sports platform that inspires young people and creates pathways for growth.
The Skyward Cup Wajir 2026 also aligns with the Madaraka Day theme, “Education, Skills and Future,” by promoting talent development, teamwork, leadership, and positive youth engagement.
According to the county leadership, the tournament will not only offer young footballers a chance to compete but also serve as a broader empowerment initiative to keep youth engaged in productive activities.
The involvement of FKF Wajir Branch and the Local Organising Committee is expected to enhance coordination and ensure the tournament is conducted professionally, giving players an opportunity to experience organised competition.
