The Government of Slovakia has donated a consignment of humanitarian aid to the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) in a move aimed at strengthening emergency response and support for vulnerable communities across the country.
The consignment, which arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday evening through SlovakAid, comprises medical rescue (trauma) bags and foldable camping beds that will enhance the capacity of the Kenya Red Cross to respond to emergencies and humanitarian crises.

The handover ceremony was attended by Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano, who expressed her admiration for the work of the Kenya Red Cross in providing lifesaving assistance to communities affected by disasters and other emergencies.
Also present were the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, and the Slovak Ambassador to Kenya, Maroš Mitrík.
The humanitarian supplies were formally received by Kenya Red Cross Deputy Secretary General for Programmes, Joe Mbalu, on behalf of the organisation and the communities it serves across the country.
Speaking during the handover, Minister Juraj Blanár commended Kenya Red Cross for its dedication to humanitarian service and its continued commitment to supporting vulnerable populations during times of need.
He noted that the donation reflects Slovakia's commitment to strengthening international cooperation and supporting organisations that play a critical role in disaster preparedness and response.
“The work undertaken by Kenya Red Cross in reaching communities affected by emergencies is commendable. We are pleased to support these efforts through this humanitarian contribution,” he said.
Receiving the donation, Joe Mbalu expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Slovakia for their generosity and solidarity with vulnerable communities in Kenya.
He noted that the equipment would bolster the organisation's emergency response capabilities and enhance its ability to provide timely assistance during disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
“We are deeply grateful to the Government and people of Slovakia for this support. We receive this donation on behalf of the many communities we serve across the country, and it will go a long way in strengthening our response efforts during emergencies,” said Mbalu.
The donation comes at a time when humanitarian organizations continue to play a vital role in responding to natural disasters, disease outbreaks, displacement crises, and other emergencies affecting communities across Kenya.
The additional equipment is expected to improve operational readiness and ensure that Kenya Red Cross can continue delivering critical assistance to those most in need.
The partnership between Slovakia and Kenya Red Cross underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing humanitarian challenges and building resilience among vulnerable communities.
Through such support, emergency responders are better equipped to save lives, alleviate suffering, and provide hope to those affected by crises.
