The government has intensified preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations with a high-level inspection of ongoing development projects in Wajir County.

The visit was led by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration (MINA) Raymond Omollo, who heads the National Celebrations Steering Committee.

As explained by PS Raymond Omollo, the delegation toured key project sites to assess progress and confirm the county’s readiness to host the national event.

The team was received by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, alongside other national and county government officials.

The visit forms part of broader preparations aimed at ensuring a successful celebration while evaluating the impact of ongoing infrastructure investments.

Officials noted that the rotational hosting of national celebrations across different regions continues to generate tangible socio-economic benefits for local communities.

In Wajir, preparations for Madaraka Day 2026 have already spurred significant development across critical sectors.

Upgrades to Wajir Stadium, the main venue for the celebrations, are nearing completion.

The improvements are part of a wider infrastructure push that also includes enhancements to the county’s airport, expansion of National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) facilities, rehabilitation of feeder roads, and strengthened electricity and water connectivity.

Government representatives emphasised that these projects are designed to deliver long-term value beyond the national event, improving service delivery and supporting economic growth in the region.

The inspection tour underscored the State’s commitment to leveraging national celebrations as a catalyst for development, particularly in historically underserved areas.

With preparations gaining momentum, Wajir is set to host Madaraka Day 2026 as the country marks another milestone in its journey of nationhood, with local residents expected to benefit from improved infrastructure and increased economic activity.
