The construction of the Isiolo–Mandera Regional Road Corridor, being implemented under the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project, is emerging as one of Kenya’s most strategic infrastructure investments in the arid north. Spanning more than 740 kilometres, the corridor is expected to unlock northern Kenya by improving regional connectivity, enhancing cross-border trade, supporting economic integration, and strengthening security in historically marginalised areas.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the project is completed on schedule. To this end, a high-level multi-agency security meeting was convened to review measures in place to guarantee uninterrupted construction across all sections of the corridor.
The meeting brought together key ministries responsible for infrastructure, transport, and security, including Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport) and Soipan Tuya (Defence). The discussions focused on ensuring that construction proceeds concurrently along the entire route, without delays caused by insecurity.
Government officials reassured development partners and contractors that security on the ground has been significantly enhanced, with additional personnel and resources deployed to safeguard workers, equipment, and project sites along the corridor.
Authorities also committed to sustained engagement with regional leaders and regular field visits to confirm that all required security protocols are not only in place but effectively implemented.

Among those present were Principal Secretaries Dr. Raymond Omollo (Internal Security and National Administration), Dr. Patrick Mariru (Defence), and Eng. Joseph Mbugua (Roads), alongside Gilbert Masengeli, Principal Administrative Secretary Jacob Narengo, and Eastern Command GOC Luka Kutto, among other senior officials.
For northern Kenya, the Isiolo–Mandera corridor is more than a road it is a lifeline expected to transform mobility, trade, and security, while firmly integrating the region into Kenya’s national and regional economic future.
