The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Sudan following the formal accreditation of its Head of Mission to the country.
IGAD Head of Mission to Sudan Mrs. Rania Hassan formally presented her letter of accreditation to H.E. Ambassador Mohieddin Salem, Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The formal presentation marks an important milestone in relations between IGAD and the Republic of Sudan. It provides a stronger diplomatic foundation for sustained engagement and closer coordination on issues of shared regional importance.
Through the accreditation, Mrs. Hassan will lead IGAD’s engagement with the Sudanese government and support consultations aimed at advancing cooperation between the regional organisation and Sudan.
Her role is also expected to contribute to improved coordination on initiatives supporting dialogue, peace, stability, regional integration and sustainable development.
The accreditation comes at a time when stronger cooperation among countries in the IGAD region remains essential in addressing shared political, economic, social and development challenges. Many of these challenges transcend national borders and require coordinated regional responses.
IGAD has consistently emphasised dialogue and collective action as important instruments for building peace, managing regional challenges and promoting sustainable development across its member states.
The organisation’s continued engagement with Sudan is therefore expected to strengthen avenues for consultation and cooperation while supporting broader regional efforts to advance peace and stability.
Sudan remains an important member of the IGAD region, and stronger institutional engagement is expected to contribute to the organisation’s efforts to promote cooperation and coordinated action among its member states.
The presentation of the accreditation letter also demonstrates IGAD’s determination to maintain constructive engagement with Sudan and deepen collaboration on priorities affecting the country and the wider region.
By strengthening its presence and diplomatic engagement in Sudan, IGAD seeks to support sustained dialogue and create opportunities for closer cooperation between regional institutions and national authorities.
The IGAD Secretariat reaffirmed that it remains committed to supporting dialogue, regional integration and collective action for peace, stability and sustainable development across the region.
The organisation will continue working with Sudan and other member states to address common challenges, strengthen regional partnerships and advance a more peaceful, stable and prosperous Horn of Africa.
