Residents of Song'ot Ward in Turkana West Constituency gathered at the Lokankae Primary School Grounds for a community outreach event to strengthen economic empowerment, expand health coverage, and promote civic participation.
The event was led by Beatrice Askul Moe and hosted by Epuyo Nanok. It brought together local leaders, community members, youth and women's groups to discuss key government initiatives and development priorities in Turkana County.
Speaking during the engagement, the Cabinet Secretary highlighted ongoing government interventions to address the effects of drought and floods on communities in the region.
She assured residents that the government remains committed to supporting vulnerable families through emergency assistance and long-term resilience programmes.
As part of the outreach, the CS urged residents to participate in the ongoing national mass identification registration exercise, known as Usajili Mashinani, to ensure more citizens obtain identification documents and access government services.
She also encouraged residents to enroll in the Social Health Authority programme to benefit from expanded healthcare coverage under the government’s health reforms.
In addition, the Cabinet Secretary called on community members to actively participate in the democratic process by increasing the number of registered voters.
She emphasized that civic participation remains important in shaping the future development of the region.
During the event, she also called for unity among Turkana leaders to advance development initiatives and improve the livelihoods of local communities.
Several leaders from the region including James Lomenen Ekomwa, Emathe Namuar, Protus Akujah, John Ariko Namoit, and Ekwom Nabuin attended the outreach programme. Also present were members of the Turkana County Assembly and grassroots leaders.
Following the engagement, the Cabinet Secretary delivered emergency relief food supplies to support families affected by the recent drought in Turkana West Constituency.
The initiative is part of ongoing government efforts to strengthen community engagement, expand social protection services, and address humanitarian challenges in Kenya's arid and semi-arid regions.
