The Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening digital learning and improving education outcomes across Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) following the successful conclusion of a two-day Learning Management and Computing Systems (LMCS) monitoring exercise in Wajir West.
Conducted in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education and led by Deputy Director of Education Madam Sadia Abdikeir, the monitoring visits covered 16 primary and junior schools across the sub-county.

The exercise assessed readiness and progress in implementing the Raspberry Pi Foundation computing module, a key initiative aimed at integrating practical digital skills into classroom learning.
Schools visited during the exercise included Maumau, Wagalla, Boa, Tulatula, Mirgoharun, Forest, Griftu, Taqwa, Al Hagar Primary and Junior School, Shantabaaq, Busbus, Laqbogol, Elgal, Guticha, Samataar, and Bojiyare.
The monitoring team engaged school leadership and ICT teachers, observed live classroom sessions, reviewed the availability and functionality of ICT equipment, and provided guidance on the use of monthly reporting templates to enhance accountability and documentation of learning progress.
Particular attention was given to teachers who had previously undergone ICT training on January 26th and 27th, 2026, with the team evaluating how newly acquired skills are being translated into day-to-day teaching practice.
The exercise generated important insights into teacher preparedness, infrastructure status, implementation progress, and areas requiring further technical and institutional support.
FCDC officials noted that such monitoring engagements are critical in ensuring that digital learning investments deliver meaningful impact in classrooms, especially in historically underserved ASAL regions.
They emphasised that sustained collaboration between FCDC, the Ministry of Education, and development partners remains key to expanding equitable access to technology-enabled education.
The council reiterated its broader commitment to leveraging technology to enhance teaching quality, strengthen learner outcomes, and bridge educational disparities across frontier counties.
As digital learning initiatives continue to scale, stakeholders expressed optimism that consistent monitoring, teacher support, and infrastructure improvements will accelerate transformation in education delivery throughout ASAL communities.
