The Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) has carried out coordinated digital learning assessments for Grade 8 learners in Wajir County and Turkana County, as part of efforts to strengthen the delivery and monitoring of digital literacy programmes in frontier regions.

In Wajir County, the assessment was led by Mohamednoor Abdikarim, who also serves as the focal person for the Raspberry Pi Foundation project.

He was joined by County Trainer Salat Kheyley and supported by three project champions during a 15-minute sit-in assessment conducted at Jogbaru Primary and Junior School.

The exercise aimed to evaluate learners’ understanding and retention of digital concepts covered under the programme, providing insights into both student progress and the effectiveness of current teaching approaches.

A similar assessment was conducted in Turkana County, where Levy Amusha, alongside Washington Odoyo, led the evaluation at Nabulon Girls Primary and Junior School.

The exercise also targeted Grade 8 learners, focusing on measuring learning outcomes and identifying areas for improvement.

Officials noted that the assessments are a critical component of ensuring quality implementation of digital literacy initiatives across FCDC member counties.

By tracking learner progress through structured evaluations, stakeholders are able to make evidence-based decisions to enhance teaching methods and programme delivery.

The initiative underscores a broader commitment to expanding access to digital skills in marginalised and underserved regions, equipping learners with competencies essential for the modern digital economy.

FCDC emphasised that continuous monitoring and evaluation will remain central to the programme, as it works with partners to strengthen digital education and improve learning outcomes across northern Kenya.
