Marsabit County has become a hub for young innovators as 1,800 students showcased climate solutions at the third annual Junior Secondary School Science Fair.

The event, held on July 12, 2025, featured 117 student projects under the theme "Using STEM to Drive Towards a Sustainable Future," highlighting the growing impact of science education in rural Kenya.

Tigo Junior Secondary School claimed top honours with their Automatic Egg Incubator, demonstrating practical agricultural innovation.

Close behind were Kalacha School's Wind Turbine and St. Mary's Water Level Sensor, all projects addressing real-world environmental challenges.

The fair's success reflects Concern Worldwide Kenya's ongoing efforts to transform STEM education in Marsabit, where only 30 of 157 junior secondary schools previously had proper science labs.

Through its Education Programme in partnership with Datatec Limited, Concern Worldwide has equipped 25 schools with modern lab kits while training teachers in competency-based curriculum methods.

This investment is yielding visible results, with girls now representing 56% of participants, an increase from 46% in 2024, signalling progress toward gender equity in science fields.
