Garissa County has initiated a comprehensive 10-day vaccination campaign aimed at protecting children against measles, rubella, and typhoid.
According to the county government of Garissa, the drive, which runs from July 5 to July 14, 2025, officially began at Policeline Dispensary as part of a nationwide effort to boost immunization coverage.
Officials explained that the campaign targets two critical age groups: children aged 9 to 59 months will receive the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine, while those between 9 months and 14 years will be eligible for the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV).
Health authorities aim to achieve 100% vaccination coverage for all eligible children in Garissa Township, ensuring widespread protection against these preventable diseases.
The launch event brought together key stakeholders, including the County Health Department, international partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, and private sector supporters like ABSA Bank and IQVIA.
Representatives from the Interior Ministry also participated, underscoring the campaign’s importance in safeguarding public health.
Health officials are urging parents and guardians across Garissa to take their children to nearby health facilities for vaccination.
The campaign seeks to curb outbreaks of measles and typhoid, which pose significant risks to child health, particularly in high-density areas.
With mobile vaccination teams deployed and health centers prepared for increased demand, the county hopes to maximize participation and ensure no child is left unprotected.
The success of the initiative could serve as a model for future immunization efforts in the region.
